Wardrobe By Me. Are PDF patterns worth it?

With my limited experience so far I think that Wardrobe By Me are excellent patterns and instructions. It’s important to note that some patterns that can be purchased as downloadable PDF files come with little or no instructions at all.

Wardrobe By Me (WBM) is different. The PDF file contains a comprehensive pattern and FULL instructions as a printable booklet. Also, for most patterns, there is a video tutorial on YouTube.

So how do you get a PDF pattern?
You need a computer, the internet and a plastic card to pay for it. For example, you want the Painters Jacket pattern as show above. Follow this link and choose the pattern, and if that is all you want, go to the Checkout.

Go through the check out and pay for the pattern. Part of the process would have asked you to set up an account and supply an email address. Once the payment has completed you will get an email confirming your purchase and download instructions. Follow those to download your pattern.

You will need the FREE Adobe Acrobat PDF reader software
Go to ADOBE.COM to get your FREE copy and install it.

Print out the instruction booklet first!

Opening the pattern
Once opened in Adobe Reader you will see multiple coloured lines. Each colour represents a different size so “turn off” the sizes that you do not want.

Printing your pattern
Use Adobe reader to open the PDF pattern called A4 (there will be a few files here). Most UK people will have a printer that uses A4 paper so when you print out the pattern this could end up as 20 to 30 sheets of paper.
Follow the detailed instructions on this YouTube video for sticking the pages together: https://wardrobebyme.com/pages/tape-pages-together

Once the pages are joined together you can cut out the actual pattern pieces. The pattern pieces should be strong enough for you to keep and use again if you want but since you have the digital files too then you can always print it out again and also at a different size. size options are shown in the middle image

So are PDF patterns worth it?
Definitely! You get them instantly and you can print out as many copies as you like. I acknowledge there is the time and cost of printing it out and sticking it together but during that process I am becoming familiar with the pattern, so it’s a trade off. The ability to choose which size to print out, by hiding the other size lines, is also a bonus, I think, so there are fewer confusing lines on the pattern.
